So, Josh, Ryan, good ole' Jon Garrett and I went to see "Cloverfield" last night. I believe that Ryan and Josh are also going to give their thoughts, but I'll go first...
Goddamnit, look out! Run BITCH RUN!!!
OH SHIT!!!
Yeah, that about sums it up.
Seriously, what a brutal film. This movie is not for everyone. If you like summer blockbusters with explosions and popcorn, this is not a film you would enjoy. But if you really want to be on the ground level, running for your life from the biggest, scariest thing you could imagine, then enjoy yourself. And try not to shit your pants.

I was to busy with my motion sickness to shit my pants.
I watched it yesterday. Very good monster movie, it was well done. The whole first person/POV thing was pretty cool. But, IMO it would've been a much better movie if they hadn't depended on that for the whole thing. I would've loved seeing what it could've been as a "real" film, with maybe some of the POV stuff here and there. I hope it does real good and they make a normal movie around it, where you really get to see the whole the picture.
Personally, if I'd done the project, I'd have done the POV stuff as a huge marketing campaign online, releasing five minutes or so a week for a few months leading up to the movie. Then, had a regular movie with maybe a few more POV scenes thrown in, and a week or two after it was released, finish the whole thing off with the last five minutes or so of the ending from this one.
All in all though, I still loved it, great flick!
Two things made this movie awsome.
1) Thia movie just totally kicked ass. Watching it fro POV of someone on the street running from this monster made you feel as if you were there, unlike watching it as a conventional film. The monster felt more real and frightening and made me so "OH SHIT!!!" more times than i can ever remember saying during a movie in my life, that includes seeing Yoda finally kicking ass. This movie was just awesome and I want to see it again.
2) The other thing that made it good was seeing it with Shaun, Josh (Missed you guys) and meeting Ryan. Let's get together for Diary Of the Dead. What do you say?
later,
JOn
I'm down.
Hopefully Diary will be better than Land of the Dead.
