That's Darius Rucker, lead singer of legendary hitmakers Hootie & the Blowfish. As an official member of the Hootie Fan Club,* I receive distressing emails about the band, like this one I found in my inbox yesterday:
"It is with great disappointment we have to announce additional changes in our touring plans for 2007. The summer tour, originally postponed until July 21, will be further delayed until Aug 10. Our lead singer, Darius Rucker suffered a staph infection in his left knee and has since undergone three surgeries to clear the infection. His post-operative rehabilitation has been prolonged in order to allow full recovery and will prevent him from continuing with the tour as planned."
Ugh. That's just...eesh. Apparently that's about as much as anyone knows at the moment. The infection's only in his knee though, so luckily he's--man, three surgeries? I'm tangled up in blue. A bright star with a brilliant career, leaving the rest of the world in his shadow, only to be brought down by a debilitating leg ailment...Darius Rucker, the Barbaro of popular music.
*Not kidding

Hootie and the Blowfish has a fan club? Hootie and the Blowfish have fans? Hootie and the Blowfish are still together? Who'da thunk it...
(P.S. I'm taking my dog to the vet tonight. She has a staph infection on her tummy.)
Let's hope your dog's treatment goes better than Mr. Rucker's. Maybe as a get well present you could buy her this shirt. Only $10!
