Today is Blog Action Day. Apparently ever year on October 15, someone decided to have this to discuss an important issue to society. This years discussion is poverty.
Poverty seems to be relative. It's obvious that there are people living in poverty in third world countries all over the world, and we should help them.
But first and foremost we need to help the people living in poverty all around us. I think many of us would be surprised how many people in our own neighborhoods, or at least cities, go to bed at night hungry on occasion. How many people who are sick, but have to forgo a doctors visit because they don't have health coverage, and can't afford the doctors office, or who do have insurance and STILL can't afford to go.
People all around us are living in close proximity to poverty if not in it. How can we help the people around us? I don't know. If the answers could be answered by someone like me, then we probably wouldn't have the issue to start with. I do think we need to be aware of the problem though.
Poverty sucks, that's my contribution to Blog Action Day.
Peace.
