In a classic case of a picture being worth a thousand words, American marathoner Brian Sell did a video interview shortly after finishing the marathon in Beijing on Sunday morning.
The Men's Marathon in Beijing was blistering—both weather-wise and pace-wise. Temperatures were north of 70 degrees F at the start and soon crept into the 80's; and from the start, a handful of guys took off like they were running a 5-K. Sell went through the half in 1:06 then wilted, finishing 22nd in 2:16:07.
Sell's asked about his shoes, which are off-camera. Sell grins, picks them up, and... Well, you can see the results in these screen grabs.
Sell explains: I never wore socks running a marathon. But I never ran a marathon that was this wet before. So, you know, it's my own fault. I mean, the T6 is a great shoe. You just should wear socks if it's over 80 degrees or 70 degrees, and you're dumping water all over yourself all the time.
