NOT. FUCKING. SAFE.

Let's set this up. The San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies are playing one game to decide who goes as the Wild Card representative to the National League Division Series. Padres go up 8-6 in the top of the 13th. Rockies score two to tie. Bottom of the 13th. One out. Here's a sac fly and Matt Holliday comes barreling towards the plate and slides headfirst. Padres catcher Michael Barrett blocks Holliday's hand with his cleat and Holliday gets a mouthful of dirt as he slides five feet on his chest. He does not touch the plate. The umpire makes the slowest call I've ever seen, a very tepid, "I think I need a Twix to think this over" safe call and it's all over. Meanwhile, Barrett's already retrieved the loose ball and tagged Holliday. Crowd goes crazy. Colorado's going to the playoffs. Thanks to something that didn't happen.

The lesson? Baseball sucks. If this were the Yankees and Red Sox playing to see who went to the playoffs, you'd never hear the end about this game. Instead, you'll probably see this for about five minutes after the Patriots highlights. Sports can eat a dick.

I'm a die-hard Met fan and have so much respect for the Rockies' recent streak (as opposed to the Mets' recent choke) that I needed a fix of baseball last night, so I watched the game. Wonderful as the Cinderella story may be, Holliday was out once Barrett made that tag. Holliday was out. What happened to playing by the rules?
