Previewing the Kentucky State Fair free concerts

It's almost August (work with me), which means you can almost smell the funnel cakes and cow shit that comes with the Kentucky State Fair. This year, the organizers have assembled quite the free concert lineup. Let's take a look, shall we?

+ Alice Cooper Thursday, August 16 - 8pm: Unbelievable. It's the Kentucky State Fair. He's Alice freaking Cooper. Who isn't excited about this? His desire to come to our little shindig is why Alice Cooper isn't the Asshole of the Day. The irony? Jefferson County Public Schools will have re-opened after being out for summer just a few days before the show. If you don't know why that's relevant, maybe this concert's not for you.

+ An Evening with Kool & The Gang Friday, August 17 - 8pm: I'm not sure what the difference is between an evening with Kool & The Gang and a plain old concert, unless you get to have dinner with them afterwards or something. In any event, it's (somewhat) the same group that put out "Celebration," "Ladies' Night," "Hollywood Swinging" and "Get Down on It," among others. How would this not be fun?

+ Saliva with special guest Black Stone Cherry Saturday, August 18 - 8pm: I don't know much about Saliva. I think they scream a lot. I know even less about Black Stone Cherry. This one gets a big shrug.

+ An Evening with The Oak Ridge Boys Sunday, August 19 - 8pm: I think my grandmother would be excited about this.

+ MercyMe with special guest Tree63 Monday, August 20 - 8pm: This post is not going as planned. I think the Fair blew their wad on the first two bands.

+ Lou Christie, Jay & The Americans and Lesley Gore Wednesday, August 22 - 8pm: I think my great-great-great grandmother would be excited about this.

Ok, time to mercifully end this post. Other acts include the mannish Jo Dee Messina, Switchfoot, the guy who sang the theme song to "American Dreams" and two gentlemen who make country music. Giddyup.
